Tokyo Central become America’s Favorite Supermarket

Elevating Tokyo Central
to America’s Favorite Supermarket

In 2022, Tokyo Central—a Japanese grocery store in the United States and a subsidiary of Don Quijote in Japan—found itself at a crucial juncture. Despite offering quality products, the store wasn’t widely recognized and was primarily reliant on online purchases for sushi trays with in-store pickup. In the fast-paced digital era, this concept felt somewhat outdated. That’s why Elephant House, a creative agency from South Jakarta, was brought in and entrusted with promoting the brand.

We began by revamping and rebranding Tokyo Central’s social media as well as implementing a targeted advertising strategy. As a result, this approach proved to be highly effective! Foot traffic increased significantly, and Tokyo Central started gaining more attention.

Seeing this success, Tokyo Central decided to continue working with Elephant House throughout 2023 and into the present. Elephant House brought creative ideas for creating insightful content, which eventually led them to develop an editorial plan while discussing concepts and visual execution with Elephant House. And now, we’re collaborating to develop the EP with the goal of making the brand even more connected with its customers.

In addition to social media, we also proposed the development of a more robust e-commerce platform for Tokyo Central. With this new system, customers no longer have to go through the hassle of picking up orders in-store; everything can be delivered straight to their homes. Our goal was simple: make shopping easier and enhance customer satisfaction.

In our journey to promote Tokyo Central, we also focused on effective ad placement and SEO strategies. The results? Outstanding! From March to August 2024, we generated over 5,000 orders, with an average order value of around 50 dollars.

Social media engagement rate also saw a significant increase. From just 2.02% in 2023, it rose to 3.49% in 2024—a jump of 6.62%. Not only that, but our ad and SEO strategies also led to a sharp rise in searches for “Tokyo Central,” with customers using the term 100 times more frequently on Google.

From the end of 2023 until now, we also started using influencers to promote Tokyo Central even more.

The results? Increased brand exposure, higher engagement, and greater recognition for Tokyo Central.

With a fresh approach and the right strategies, Elephant House has elevated Tokyo Central from being relatively unknown to becoming one of the favourite shopping destinations in the U.S. So, let’s take this journey to the next level, and Elephant House will always be ready to tackle all the challenges.
